How Do Generators Work?
The generator is a combination of prime mover (usually engine) and alternator. The engine converts the chemical energy of the fuel into mechanical energy. The mechanical energy is used to rotate the alternator rotor and then convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy. An alternator is made of two main parts; a rotor and stator. Rotating the alternator rotor through the magnetic field between the rotor and stator creates a voltage on the alternator stator, through the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. When the voltage on the stator is connected to a load, electric current flows, and the generator generates power.
